Paris Fashions for August - Promenade Dress, 1850. 'Cheapness of male attire is the furore in Paris, as every wall attests. Among the few houses in which good taste and elegance have taken refuge is the house of Humann (a new house, 83, Petits Champs). Coat and vest in lady's cloth, with long body; the skirts short and round, with a single row of buttons, and without any on the back. Pantaloons in Canton cloth, silk stockings, and shoes; Scotch cravat, and waistcoat en pique with small figures.' From "Illustrated London News", 1850.
