'Open-work straw bonnets of different colours are adopted, and are most seasonable for spring, especially in lilac or ornamented with branches of lilac. White drawn silk bonnets are much worn, but are covered with fullings of net. Drawn lace and crape bonnets begin to appear, and already black and white lace bonnets are being prepared. Branches of fruit are much worn upon these last-mentioned bonnets'. From "Illustrated London News", 1850.
