Steel Works, Redcar and Cleveland, North Yorkshire, 16/09/1975. A concrete batching plant with several cement storage silos during construction work at the British Steel Works at Redcar. Laing was only one of a host of contractors that built the works at Redcar, responsible primarily for the construction of the raw material reception and storage areas including a network of tunnels housing conveyor belts, all from concrete. Laing was responsible for the foundations for the heavy plant across the site, the blast furnace itself alone required foundations of 6,000 cubic meters of concrete consisting of 80% ground blast furnace slag to better resist the high temperatures it would be subjected to.
