Swagger stick, Royal Flying Corps, ca. 1910s. First World War wood swagger stick with bullet cartridge tip and brass handle, owned by Lt. Wes D. Archer. Wes Archer, an American with Canadian parents, joined the Royal Flying Corps in 1917. He was shot down in 1918. He returned to the United States in 1920 and wrote "Death in the Air: The War Diary and Photographs of a Flying Corps Pilot".
