This document is from a collection of financial papers related to the plantation operations of several generations of the Rouzee Family in Essex County, Virginia. The papers date from the 1790s through 1860. This single page document is a receipt of payment made by Edward Rouzee to Eliza Noel for "attendance on negro woman named Janette belonging to the estate of the late John Rouzee." The document is signed in the bottom right by William Noel on behalf of Eliza Noel. On the reverse is written "Noel Eliza, Rec'd $2, 18 March 1824." Both sides are written by hand in black ink. The paper is torn unevenly on the right and bottom sides. It has been folded vertically multiple times.
