'The training exercises of the racer are of peculiar interest at this moment...the annexed engraving, representing "The Last Sweat"...The process of giving training sweats is to clothe the horse very warmly, and then to walk him to the exercising ground, where he is to be soon started into a canter, which the rider, at a proper time, quickens into a smart gallop over a mile or two'.
