'Tank Inquiry at Lincoln's Inn', c1919, (1945). British politician and statesman Sir Winston Churchill (1874-1965) at an inquiry in London. Churchill had encouraged the development of the tank, which he believed would be useful in overcoming the problems of trench warfare during the First World War, and financed its creation with admiralty funds.
