'August II., Der Starke', (1933). Portrait of Augustus II the Strong (1670-1733), Elector of Saxony (as Frederick Augustus I), Imperial Vicar, elected King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania. His was nicknamed 'the Strong", 'the Saxon Hercules' and 'Iron-Hand', due to his physical strength, especially at fox-tossing - a competitive blood sport which involved throwing live foxes and other animals high into the air. From "Gestalten Der Weltgeschichte", a book of cigarette-card portrait miniatures of figures in world history from the last four hundred years. [Germany, 1933]
