'Samual Prout, W.S. (1783-1852)'. Portrait print of British painter Prout, after a pastel drawing made c1836 by Charles Turner, in the National Portrait Gallery in London. Prout was Painter in Water-Colours in Ordinary to King George IV and afterwards to Queen Victoria. He was influential in British watercolour architectural painting, and taught Turner, Gainsborough, Constable and Ruskin. From English water-colour with reproductions of drawings by eminent painters, edited by Charles Holme, published by The Studio Library, [c1900]
