Theseus and the Minotaur on the lid of a Greek Dish, c5th century BC. Theseus told his father (the king) he was going to Crete to kill the Minotaur and end the terror. Minos knew even if he did manage to kill the Minotaur, Theseus would never be able to exit the Labyrinth.
