Two Nudes in the Forest (The Land Itself), 1939. Mexican painter Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) made work inspired by the nature and artifacts of Mexico. Her naïve folk art style explored questions of identity, postcolonialism, gender, class, and race. Her paintings often had strong autobiographical elements, and mixed realism with fantasy. She has been described as a surrealist or magical realist. Private Collection.
