'La Maja Vestida', (The Clothed Maja), 1800-1808, (c1934). First owned by Prime Minister Manuel de Godoy, who was known as a womaniser, originally hung in his home in front of the Naked Maja in such a manner that the Naked Maja could be revealed at any time with the help of a pulley mechanism. Legend would have it she was the Duchess That of Alba, Although she has been identified as Pepita Also Tudo, Godoy's mistress from 1797. Oil on canvas. Held at the Museo del Prado, Madrid.
