Titanic - Dock, Wharf, Riverside, and General Workers Union statement, 1912. On April 19th, 1912, the Marine Department of the Board of Trade received a letter from the Dock, Wharf, Riverside, and General Workers’ Union of Great Britain and Ireland detailing the Union’s contempt at the loss of working class lives that occurred on the Titanic. The letter was signed Ben Tillett, the general secretary for the Union.
