'Plantus, Comoediae, c1511. PLAUTUS, originally from Titus Maccius (ca 254-184 B.C.). Comoediae. xx. Commentary by Bernardus Saracenus and Giovanni Pietro Valla. Venice: Lazarus Soardus, 1511. The woodcut of the actor addressing the audience in a theatre was first used in Soardi's 1497 edition of Terence and is one of the most famous images in the history of the stage.
