Jose Maria Galvez. Notable speaker and politician born in Matanzas in 1835. He was the author of the booklet 'Independence of Cuba' (1869) 'Parallel ' (1869) in which he defended the independence. He presided over the Autonomist Liberal Party, from 1878 to1898; was chairman of the cabinet in the Autonomist party and died in 1906.
