Side panel from The Franks Casket, Anglo-Saxon, first half of the 8th century. Left-hand end depicting Romulus and Remus nurtured by the wolf with an inscription describing the scene. Box also known as the Auzon casket, made from the bone of a beached whale, richly carved on the sides and lid in high relief with a range of scenes. From the British Museum's collection.
