Sleeping Endymion. Roman sculpture, after a Greek original of 2nd century BC. A fragment of a group of Selene and Endymion. According to Greek mythology, the Goddess Selene was in love with Endymion, a shepherd. She asked Zeus to grant him eternal sleep so that he would stay young and never leave her. Found in the collection of The Hermitage, St Petersburg.
