'Marina Mniszech with her Father under Arrest', 1883. Marina Mniszech (c1588-1614) was a Polish noblewoman who became Tsarina of Russia after marrying the impostor False Dmitry I in 1605 during the period of Russian history known as the Time of Troubles, when the country was dominated by the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Marina's father, Jerzy Mniszech was heavily involved in the intrigues of the period, and persuaded her to marry another pretender to the throne, False Dmitry II, after the first Dmitry had been murdered. The painting shows the Mniszechs in exile in Yaroslavl after the death of False Dmitry I. Found in the collection of the Regional Art Gallery, Vologda, Russia.
