Yugoslav leader Marshal Josip Broz Tito in his office, Belgrade, Yugoslavia, c1946-c1947. After leading the resistance by communist partisans to the Nazi occupation of his country, Tito (1892-1980) became Prime Minister of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. In 1953 he was declared President, an office he held until his death in 1980. During his rule Yugoslavia was a communist state but was outside of the Soviet bloc from 1948 onwards, pursuing a policy of neutrality during the Cold War and playing a prominent role in the establishment of the Non-Aligned Movement. Found in the collection of the Museum of Yugoslavian History, Belgrade.
