Terence Joseph McSwiney (1879-1920) was a representative of Sinn Fein who was elected Lord Mayor of Cork in 1920 during the Irish War of Independence. He was arrested by the British on charges of sedition and imprisoned in Brixton jail where he died on 25 October after a 74 day hunger strike.
