New York Stock Exchange, New York City, USA, c1930s. The largest stock exhange in the world, the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) was founded in 1792 when 24 stockbrokers signed the Buttonwood Agreement, so called because they met under a buttonwood tree. The organisation drafted a formal constitution in 1817. The NYSE is located at 18 Broad Street on the corner of Wall Street in Manhattan. The building opened in 1903.
