Birr Castle, Count Offaly, Ireland, home of the Earl of Rosse, c1880. William Parsons, 3rd Earl of Rosse, a keen astronomer, had what was then the largest telescope in the world built at Rosse Castle in 1845. It was known as the Leviathan of Parsonstown.
