The aircraft carrier HMS 'Eagle' and a Fairey Flycatcher aircraft, 1937. The Fairey Flycatcher was a carrier-borne fighter plane in service with the Royal Navy between 1923 and 1934. Launched in 1924, HMS 'Eagle' was sunk by German submarine U-73 in August 1942 while engaged in Operation Pedestal, the convoy taking vital supplies to Malta.
