'Habit of a Lady of Quality in Barbary', 18th-19th century. North African woman in traditional costume. These women wore gold or silver rings on their ankles, their sleeves were long and wide, they wore drawers like the Turks and their undress reached but a Little below the Knee. (The term Barbary was used by Europeans to refer to what is now Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and Libya.) Engraving from the New Geographical Dictionary.
