Benjamin Disraeli, Earl of Beaconsfield, Prime Minister, 1881. Disraeli (1804-1881) was twice Prime Minister of Britain, first in 1868 and then again between 1874 and 1880. Under his Conservative government, Disraeli extended the British Empire and in 1876 he conferred on Queen Victoria the title Empress of India. From Men of Mark: a gallery of contemporary portraits of men distinguished in the Senate, the Church, in science, literature and art, the army, navy, law, medicine, etc. Photographed from life by Lock and Whitfield, with brief biographical notices by Thompson Cooper.
