Jichimu wood ruyi sceptre, Qing dynasty, China, early 18th century. A carved jichimu (chicken wing wood) ruyi sceptre of very knobbly form. The flat end and the stem are joined together. The ruyi sceptre is symbolic of longevity and incorporates the meaning of 'as you wish' or 'may all of your wishes be granted'.
