Lacquered and moulded mandarin orange skin box, Qing dynasty, China, 19th century. A dessicated orange skin box of bombe form. The circular orange-skin cover is moulded in relief with a daisy-like floral spray. The container itself is moulded in relief with a two-branched chrysanthenum spray and butterflies in relief, all under a clear shiny reddish-brown lacquer varnish.
