Gilt bronze pendant in the shape of a spade coin, Sui or early Tang period, China, 581-650 AD. A gilt bronze pendant in the traditional legged rectangular shape of Warring States spade money with a small hole at the top and slightly raised borders. The coin is decorated on the front with seven Buddhist figures in a severe upright standing style, and on the reverse with scrolling tendrils and cursive calligraphy.
