Sculpture of a mountain with monkeys, Qing dynasty, China, 18th century. A tall tapering mountain-shaped natural nanmu (cedar) wood sculpture of variegated golden and dark brown colour. The partly natural formations and gnarled surface have been enhanced by cutting to form a strange convoluted rock-like pinnacle with four monkeys, one holding a peach, set in various niches pierced through in groups of interlocking cavities. A hole in the base interconnects.
