Ruyi sceptre, China, late 18th-early 19th century. Bamboo veneered boxwood base ruyi. The tail is slightly splayed, the boxwood is of nice honey colour, the head and tail with cut out bamboo skin veneer depicting on the head some of the Eight Precious Buddhist emblems. The tail has formal veneer and in the middle is bamboo veneer of a double gourd vase holding a ruyi and other items with bamboo veneer skin borders.
