Cizhou figure of a seated lady with polychrome overglaze enamels, Jin-early Yuan dynasty, China, 13th century. A graceful lady seated on the edge of a circular stool, on which one of her sleeve-covered hands rests, the lady looking slightly to the right. The whole piece is covered by a white slip and decorated with polychrome overglaze enamels at one of the Cizhou kilns. Her jet black hair is parted in the middle with an oval medallion in green against a bunched up cloth cap with traces of red. Her upper robe is green with black floral patterns and black petal zig-zag border. There is also a loose yellow belt and a long white black bordered scarf draped over her shoulder and tied in a bow at the back. The scarf has floral patterns in green and red enamels. The lower dress formerly had a red overglaze enamel that has now largely gone, the stool is glazed black.
