The Empress Ballroom at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool, Lancashire, 1897-1910. The Winter Gardens in Church Street includes the Empress Ballroom (seen here with a horse-drawn vehicle in the foreground). It was built in 1896-1897 at a cost of £130,000. As can be seen here, the admission price was 6d, (six old pennies); about three pence today.
