The Old Tabard Inn, Southwark, London, before 1873. The 17th-century coaching inn with galleries, pictured here, replaced the medieval tavern, and was itself sold and demolished in 1873. This was the meeting place of Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury pilgrims.
