'The Earl and Countess of Derby and Child', 1632-1641 (1910). James, 7th Earl of Derby (1607-1651) and his wife Charlotte (1599-1664) and one of their four daughters. The Earl and Lady Derby were staunch supporters of the Royalist cause in the English Civil War. The Earl was beheaded for treason in 1651. Lady Derby was noted for her defence of Lathom House in Lancashire against besieging Parliamentarian forces. A print from The Connoisseur, (London, 1910).
