1895 Knight. This car is believed to be the first British petrol-driven car to run on public roads. It was originally a three-wheeler, the builder being John Henry Knight of Farnham, Surrey. In October 1895, Knight was fined five shillings for not having a traction engine licence, or a man walking in front. The car was shown at the 1896 Crystal Palace Motor Exhibition.
