Charles W Nash. Nash was one of the pioneers of the American motor industry. At the end of the 19th century he joined David Buick and William Durant in forming the Buick Motor Co, and by 1908 was the company's president and general manager. He was then hired by the ailing General Motors to turn their fortunes around. He succeeded, but his reluctance to pay dividends caused dissatisfaction amongst shareholders and he was forced out of the company in 1915. Nash vowed never to work for someone else again, and began looking for a business to acquire to establish his own firm. He bought Jeffery in 1916, renaming it the Nash Motor Co. He concentrated on the production of medium-priced, moderately-sized cars, and by the time Nash handed the company on to his successsor, he had amassed a personal fortune of about $100 million.
