Dr Ferdinand Porsche. Ferdinand 'Ferry' Porsche founded the sports car manufacturing company which bears his name in 1948. As well as producing a string of best-selling road sports cars including the 356 and the 911, Porsche had a long and highly successful association with sportscar racing, dating from their first entry at Le Mans in 1951, when the car won its class. In all, Porsche cars won the event 16 times, as well as countless other races around the world.
