Emerson Fittipaldi, c1970-c1971. Brazilian Fittipaldi entered Formula 1 in 1970 with Lotus, after winning the British Formula 3 Championship the previous year. He won the US Grand Prix in his opening season, the first of his 14 victories, and in 1972 and 1974 won the World Championship. After two seasons with McLaren he set up his own team in 1976, which enjoyed little success, and he retired from Formula 1 in 1980. He remained in motor racing, however, switching to Indycar racing in North America. He was again successful, amongst his wins being the Indianapolis 500 in 1989 and 1993.
