Ken Tyrrell noting down times, (c1970s?). He was a front-runner in F3 throughout the 1950s. In 1960 the Tyrrell Racing Organisation was established to run the factory Coopers in Formula Junior. At the start of 1964 Tyrrell was looking for a driver for the new Formula 3. The pairing of Jackie Stewart and Warwick Banks proved a great success, with Stewart winning the British Championship. In 1970 Tyrrell began to build the Tyrrell 001 chassis. For the 1971 season the car was developed into the Tyrrell 003, and Stewart went on to win his second World Championship. In 1976 the team produced the Tyrrell P34 six-wheeler. The Tyrrell team never gained the same momentum through the 1980s and 1990s, and had difficulties obtaining sponsorhip. In 1997 the Tyrrell family sold out to British American Racing (BAR).
