'What a woman may be, and yet not have the Vote', c1912. This popular poster was also produced as a postcard. It was published by the Suffrage Atelier, an organisation founded in London in February 1909, whose aim was: 'to encourage Artists to forward the Women's Movement, and particularly the Enfranchisement of Women, by means of pictorial publications'. By depicting images of worthy females over their unworthy male counterparts, the poster highlighted the absurdity of women not being able to vote, and of being forced or even expected to take an inferior position in society.
