Silver touch piece of King George III, 1766. Touch pieces were thought to have healing powers. It was firmly believed for centuries that kings had divine powers from God that enabled them to cure scrofula, a type of tuberculosis, by touching the sufferers with their fingers.This became a healing ritual known as 'touching for the King's Evil.'
