Roman baths at Cheapside, London, late 1st-2nd century. An artist's impression of the baths; on the left fuel is being stoked into the furnace. Steam escapes from outlets, while an open pool can be seen on the right. These public baths were built in the late 1st century, and enlarged in the 2nd century. They were on a scale similar to military bath-houses and were perhaps for military use as they were situated near the fort.
