'The General Post Office. One Minute to Six', 1860. The scene is set in the Grand Public Hall of the General Post Office in St Martin's-le-Grand in the City of London. On the right newspapers are flung towards the night mail which departs at 6 pm. In the centre are customers with their stamped letters and parcels, and on the right are onlookers, showing that the daily rush at the post office had become a tourist attraction.
