Paris Observatory in the time of Louis XIV, 17th century (1870). In 1669 Louis engaged the Italian astronomer Giovanni Domenico Cassini (1625-1712) to construct and direct the observatory. Cassini spent the remainder of his life in France and became known as Jean Dominique Cassini. From Vies des Savants Illustres by Louis Figuier. (Paris, 1870).
