House of John Bartram (1699-1777), American botanist and agriculturist, 1884. Regarded as the 'Father of American botany', Bartram was one of the founder members, along with Benjamin Franklin, of the American Philosophical Society. He opened the Bartram Botanical Gardens in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and in 1765 was appointed Royal Botanist by King George III. This shows Bartram's house near Philadelphia.
