'Railway Responsability', 1874. Mr Punch tells a fat railway director that his train operators - seen in the background amidst the buffers and broken rails - are not to blame for the latest train crash. There was more and more criticism being levelled at the directors of the railways who were failing to keep investing in the system to ensure that the latest in signalling, tracks and trains were being brought in. From Punch, or the London Charivari, September 26, 1874.
