'Galatea Married', 1866. Galatea rides a chariot with two satyrs sitting in the back, their arms crossed and talking to each other. The one-eyed giant Polyphemus rides along side her. The illustration shows a scene from John Gay's libretto for Händel's 'Acis and Galatea', and is based on a fragment of the Elgin Marbles in the British Museum. The cartoon pokes fun at August Manns, the conductor of the Crystal Palace concerts. From Punch, or the London Charivari, April 14, 1866.
