'The Water Babies', 1865. Mrs Britannia turns to Madam France and comments Delightful to See the Children such Good Friends, Dear, Isn't it? Mrs Britannia and Mrs France seated on a beach, bathing machines at their backs. In the shallow water, their children, little Napoleon and little John Bull play with their model ships. At the end of August 1865, the French Fleet visited Portsmouth and were courteously and hospitably entertained. This was a return visit after an equally pleasant occasion enjoyed when the British Fleet had visited France. From Punch, or the London Charivari, September 16, 1865.
