Thomas Young, English physician, physicist and Egyptologist, 1881. Born at Milverton in Somerset, Young (1773-1829) revived the wave (undulatory) theory of light and identified the optical phenomenon of interference. His work on ancient languages played an important role in deciphering the Rosetta Stone. From A Popular History of Science by Robert Routledge. (London, 1881).
