Vaughan Williams Memorial Library, the library and archive of the English Folk Dance and Song Society has been in existence since the opening of Cecil Sharp House in 1930. The nucleus of the collection is Sharp’s personal library, to which has been added additional materials reflecting the folk arts of the world. Of particular note is the photographic archive, estimated to comprise some 15,000 images. Sharp’s photograph collection from his collecting trips around both England and the Appalachian States of the USA (dating c1905-1918) are a feature, as well as images depicting aspects of the two folk revivals of the late 19th and 20th centuries.
